John Green’s Debut book ‘Looking for Alaska’ came many years back but still, it feels fresh. I read it for many times. ‘Looking for Alaska’ is an addictive novel. It is one of the most fabulous debuts by any Author. John Green indeed a perfect author in many ways. Whenever I touch the cover of – Looking for Alaska, I feel like the characters inside the book came alive. This is the power of a god book. I read almost every book by John Green, but for me Looking for Alaska is best of all. Just because it’s a kind of rollercoaster ride, that takes you to journey of a totally relatable story. Which every teenager can relate to their life.
I’m writing this post, not as a review for Looking for Alaska. In this post, I will share 3 life lessons I learned from that amazing book.
Focus on Living the Present, not your past.
Alaska had always a guilt for his Mom’s death, she was always terrified thinking about her past. Thinking about the day when She and her Mom returned from Zoo visit (Alaska was a very little girl by that time), and Alaska’s mom fell unconsciously. She could have dialed 911, but she missed the chance to save her mom. This guilt always burns her from inside. So, I learned a life lesson from there. Simply, focus on your present, fuck your past.
Friends can change your Life.
Good friends can make your life better, while the bad one can also make it better :). Miles was isolation loving boy. Who likes to live a silent and simple life. But on the other hand, he got new friends like Colonel and Alaska Young. Then his life got into a new track. He started doing pranks, living life crazily and fearless. Also as a side effect, he started smoking and drinking (That’s too because of his friends). So overall we can conclude that – Friends can change your life. They can make it better or worse, but they have the power to change you.
Life is not always constant. You can expect a blow anytime.
Their life was going great. Especially Miles’s life. Getting a kiss from your crush can make you feel amazing to the rest. Then life changed. In a quick span of time. Everything happened unexpectedly. The whole story changed on a page. The Book ‘Looking for Alaska’ became an emotional journey from an adventurous journey in just a page. What can we get the moral from it? Maybe this0- “Life is not always constant”. You can be broken the very next minute of your life.
